Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to print an A0 plan?

An A0 costs €4 to €12 in black and white and €8 to €24 in colour, VAT included, depending on the share of the sheet covered in ink: under 50%, 50 to 74%, or 75% and above. 80 g paper is included; 120 g paper adds €6 per copy in A0.

How is the fill rate calculated?

Using the preview of your page at the chosen size and framing, the site counts the share of the area that is not white, rounded down to the nearest whole number. For example, in colour A1, a line drawing measured at 20% stays in the first tier, at €4 VAT included; a perspective with solid fills measured at 80% moves into the third, at €12. Because the measurement follows the framing, enlarging the plan can move it into a different tier.

Which plan sizes can you print?

A2 (420 × 594 mm), A1 (594 × 841 mm) and A0 (841 × 1189 mm), in colour or black and white, as well as your file's actual size. The actual size is for scale drawings laid out on a non-standard page: a 1:50 plan laid out on 700 × 1000 mm comes out at those dimensions, and the scale stays accurate. Printed in A1, the same plan would be reduced to fit the sheet, and the 1:50 scale would no longer hold.

Which files should I send to print an architectural plan?

A PDF exported from your drawing software is the safest choice: its dimensions are written into the file, independent of any resolution. A JPG or PNG image is also accepted, up to 120 MB, like the PDF. At actual size, an image is measured at 300 dots per inch: 3000 pixels wide therefore gives 254 mm on paper.

Can you fold my plans to A4?

Yes. When ordering, you choose rolled or folded to A4, and folding does not change the print price. The number of panels is shown next to the option: 4 for an A2, 8 for an A1 and 16 for an A0. Rolled, the plan stays free of creases, which suits a display or a presentation board.

How are rolled or folded plans shipped?

Folded to A4, plans travel flat; rolled, they are sent in a tube. For home delivery, no tube surcharge is added. To a pickup point, a tube surcharge may apply: the basket tells you and shows what the same shipment would cost with folded plans. The price of each delivery option is shown before payment.

Can I print all the sheets of a planning permission application?

Yes. Upload the complete PDF, with the site plan, elevations and sections, and choose the first sheet. Once it is in the basket, answer ‘Yes, another page’ to the question ‘Print another page?’, then choose the next one. The size chosen for the previous sheet is kept: if the next one measures a different size, change it before adding it. The framing, however, starts again from scratch for each sheet.

Where can I collect my plans near Mons, Ath, Mouscron or Lille?

At the Xtra Copy shop, Rue de l'Yser 11, 7500 Tournai, free of charge. You send the file from this page, with no trip needed to drop it off, and an email lets you know when your plans are ready and waiting for you at the shop: you only make one journey, the one to collect them. If you choose delivery, this email gives you the parcel tracking link.

The complete guide: Architectural plan printing in A0, A1 and A2 in Tournai

Order printing of your architectural plans, site plans and technical drawings online, in A2 (420 × 594 mm), A1 (594 × 841 mm) or A0 (841 × 1189 mm), in colour or black and white. The service is designed for architects, engineering consultancies and contractors, in Wallonia Picardy and elsewhere in Belgium, and for students at UCLouvain's LOCI Faculty of Architecture, which has a campus in Tournai, when the time comes to print their studio boards. You upload a PDF, or a JPG or PNG image, up to 120 MB, then you see a preview of the sheet and of the plan as you will take it away, rolled or folded.

If your PDF is already laid out in A2, A1 or A0, its size is recognised to the millimetre and selected automatically: an 841 × 1189 mm file is printed in A0 with no further adjustment. You can also keep your page's actual size, within the width of the shop's rolls, 914 mm at most. It is then charged at the A2 rate, multiplied by the ratio between its area and that of an A2 sheet.

In A2, A1 or A0, a zoom slider, from 50 to 200%, and two offset sliders let you adjust the layout. To keep dimensions and fine lines crisp, it is better to export your PDF at the right size: above 100%, the screen warns you that they lose sharpness.

The price does not depend on size alone. It follows the share of the sheet actually covered in ink, measured on your file and shown in large figures while you adjust. There are three tiers: under 50%, 50 to 74%, and 75% and above. A line drawing, with lots of white space, generally stays in the first; a perspective or a section with solid colour fills climbs higher. Very light backgrounds on a scan do not count as ink, and the measurement is the same in colour and in black and white.

In practice, VAT included and depending on the tier: an A2 costs €1 to €3 in black and white and €2 to €6 in colour, an A1 €2 to €6 in black and white and €4 to €12 in colour, an A0 €4 to €12 in black and white and €8 to €24 in colour. Black and white therefore costs half the colour price. The full price grid is shown higher up this page, and the exact amount for your print appears before you add it to the basket.

Standard 80 g paper is included in these prices. For a thicker sheet, 120 g paper adds €1.50 in A2, €3 in A1 and €6 in A0 per copy. Gloss or matt 200 g photo papers are also available. For a poster or an exhibition visual, use the Posters and prints page: photo paper is selected automatically there and the poster can be trimmed to size.

Each sheet comes rolled or folded to A4, at no extra cost on the print price, and can be printed in 1 to 99 copies. A set of several sheets can come as a single PDF: you choose the page to print, and after you add it to the basket, the shop offers to print another page from the same file, without uploading it again, keeping the size, colour, folding, paper and number of copies.

Collection from the shop, Rue de l'Yser 11 in Tournai, is free, so you can pick up your plans on the way to a site meeting or a jury. Further afield, they are delivered to your home or to a pickup point in 22 European Union countries, including Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. For A4 and A3, or to bind a final-year dissertation, the shop has its Black and white copies, Colour photocopies and Theses and dissertations pages.
