It is made up to 12 pages with two blank pages placed at the end, so on the back of the booklet, and it is priced as 12 pages. To end on a prayer or a word of thanks on the last page, add those two blank pages yourself earlier in your document, for example on the back of the title page and just before the last page: your closing text then falls on page 12, on the back.
Your A4 pages are reduced by about a third to fit on half a sheet, without being distorted or cropped: 12-point text comes out at around 8 points, a little small for following a hymn standing up in church. Ideally, prepare your pages in A5, or enlarge the text before exporting the PDF.
From Word as from Canva, save or download your booklet as a PDF, ideally in A5 pages and in reading order, then upload that PDF: a Word file or just a link to your Canva design cannot be sent as it is.
A stapled booklet stops at 50 A4 sheets, or 200 A5 pages, and the order cannot go beyond that. Split the collection into two booklets, for example the everyday hymns in one and those for feast days in the other, or shorten the document by tightening the layout.
On the stapled booklet, the thickest cover is a 120 gsm satin paper, at €0.10 incl. VAT per copy; if you want a 250 gsm cover, go for the bound A5 notebook, which offers one with ring binding.
Allow €118.00 incl. VAT for 100 twelve-page colour booklets with a 120 gsm satin cover, ordered on their own and without a subscription: 600 sides at €0.18 and 100 covers at €0.10. The same booklets in black and white come to €34.00, with 600 sides at €0.04.
Not quite. By default, the booklet keeps a white margin of at least 4 mm around each page, so a full-page photo of the couple will come out with a thin white border: plan a layout that works with it. If the open booklet leaves a gap in the centre, tick “Stick to the fold”: the pages move closer to the fold instead of being centred.
Order as soon as the text is final, leaving some margin before the date. An email lets you know as soon as the order is ready to be collected at the shop or shipped. If you choose delivery, to your home or to a pickup point, in Belgium, France or twenty other European Union countries, add the delivery time.
First Communion, profession of faith, wedding or funeral: the booklet handed to everyone entering the church is most often A5, 148 × 210 mm, half an A4 sheet. At Xtra Copy in Tournai, you order it online from the file you have prepared, and it comes out folded in half and stapled in the middle. The same format suits concert or school fête programmes and choir songbooks, for a parish in Wallonie picarde as much as for a family living anywhere in Belgium.
Take an ordinary Mass booklet: a title page with the first names and the date, the readings, the hymns, a prayer, a word of thanks. It is made of A4 sheets printed double-sided, with two A5 pages on each side, slipped inside one another and then held by two staples placed in the fold. This is called a stapled quire, or saddle stitching, and it is why pages come in fours: one more sheet means four more pages. A 14-page document therefore becomes a 16-page booklet, and its last two pages, the inside and the outside of the back cover, stay blank; it is priced as 16 pages.
Whether the booklet was laid out by the family or by the parish, in Word, Canva or another program, you upload its PDF version as it reads, page 1 first, or several PDF, JPG or PNG files if the pages are separate, up to 120 MB each and 450 MB in total. The site places the pages on the right sides of the right sheets, and you leaf through the booklet on screen, in the order it will be folded, before adding it to your cart. If someone has already set it up in double-page spreads, the tool can spot this and offer you a reordered version: you keep whichever suits you. An option also turns landscape pages upright.
Two to four sheets are enough for an 8- to 16-page Mass booklet, and a songbook can go up to 50 sheets, or 200 pages. All the inside pages are printed on 80 gsm paper, included in the price and the only paper offered for them: any thicker, the fold would crack and the staple would not go through properly. For the cover, which often carries a photo of the couple, the child or the deceased, a firmer 120 gsm satin paper costs €0.10 incl. VAT per booklet. It is not an extra sheet: it is the outer sheet of the booklet, printed on this paper, with page 1 and the last page on the outside, page 2 and the second-to-last page on the inside.
Black and white or colour is chosen once for the whole booklet, with no page-by-page sorting. For a funeral booklet, a black and white photo of the deceased keeps the whole booklet at the black and white rate; choosing colour for that one photo means paying for colour on the whole booklet. The price is counted per A4 side, which carries two of your A5 pages, and it goes down as the number of sides goes up. Example: 50 eight-page Mass booklets, without a cover, ordered on their own and without a subscription, make 200 sides, which comes to €10.00 incl. VAT in black and white or €45.00 in colour. Staples are not charged, and the “Our prices” table, higher up this page, gives the full scale in black and white and in colour.
If this format or this finish does not suit you, two related pages take over: the A4 stapled booklet for a larger programme or brochure, and the bound A5 notebook for rings instead of staples.
The booklets can be collected free of charge at the shop, Rue de l'Yser 11 in Tournai. When the service takes place in Mons, Ath, Mouscron, Lille or further away, you can also have them sent straight to the family or the parish, to the name and address you give, or to a pickup point depending on the country.
